
Formed in 1923 by an amalgamation of the combined London & North Western and Lancashire & Yorkshire Railways, plus the Midland, Caledonian, Glasgow & South Western, Highland and several minor companies as the largest of the British post grouping Railways. The system extended from the far north of Scotland to Bristol in the West and Southend in the East, and included the important West Coast Main Line with London Terminus at Euston.
Nationalised in 1948 to become the London Midland Region and part of the Scottish Region of British Railways.
