Sam Wane CEng MEng PgC MIET MIEEE

Senior Lecturer - Robotics

I am a senior lecturer in Robotics Engineering and Robotics Technology at Staffordshire University.

The research groups I am involved in are: Mobile Communications and Distributed Systems (MCDS), and Human Adaptive Mechatronics (HAM).

I am the chairman of the Institution of Engineering and Technology for the North West Midlands region.

Current projects

  • Design and build a propulsion system for a swallow-able pill-sized robot capsule using internal inertia.

  • Collaborating with JCB to design and implement a tele-operated 3 tonne excavator for decommissioning the Sellafield nuclear powerplant.

  • Consultant to implement an Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) for remote and autonomous measurement of flow beneath a gas/oil filtration system.

I often give workshops and tutorials to schools, colleges and the public to engage them in the exciting world of robotics.
